Commuters NYCelium is a data-physicalization object that visualizes the commuter flows between New York City and its surrounding metro regions—Mid Hudson, Lower Hudson, Inner New Jersey, Outer New Jersey, Southwest Connecticut, and Long Island. Inspired by the organic growth of mycelium, the filaments growing outward from the center mass mimics the daily movements of commuter residents. Made with clay and wool adhered to a circular canvas. The found round-head bolts embedded in the rim divide the sections proportionally to mark the commuter volume from each region.
